AIM 4.1 for mac os doesnt start

When I started aim 4.1 for Mac os using the correct login and password on my IMac G3 blue slot loader running os 9.2, it signed on to the servers just fine. When I logged in a second time using the exact same username and password, an error message pops up saying;

**The AOL Instant Messenger (SM) service does not appear to be responding. The sign on attempt has been canceled.**

And its been doing this every time since, some help would be greatly appreciated!

Btw im writing and posting this on the aforementioned IMac G3 using the Classilla web browser and an ethernet cable.
