Can't connect to AIM

I've setup my account, and downloaded AIM, after which I changed the server to this one, and as soon as I click Sign On it just says 1. Connecting... and never actually connects. I do have a functioning network connection. Did I do something wrong?

EDIT: It appears I managed to connect and login, however it took excruciatingly long. The only thing I noticed about this machine that is slow was the hard drive. Does the hard drive somehow affect AIM?

Glad to hear its not just me. I was starting to get worried it was some weird hardware issue. I suppose the server is slow ATM.

I was running the patched version that day. The server went down a few hours later so it was definitely just the server-side lag.
