AIM Won't Open

I'm using Windows 8.1 (yes, I know it's bad but there's nothing I can do for now) and for some reason I can't get AIM to open at all, the splash screen where you enter your info. I've tried various versions, but none open. A few had oddities such as Windows Explorer crapping the bed when I try to open it, but none open at all. I've tried compatibility mode for various operating systems, but no dice. Anyone got any ideas?
