Having issues with version 5.1 on Win 10

I have done some research, and with the provided methods, I am still having issues loading up AIM. When the shortcut is used, it locks up my computer so I can't use it. Methods I've used to counteract this include:

1) reinstalling it
2) closing AIM immediately after it launches, then running it again
3) installing the replacement .dll that supposedly work with it
4) tried the prior methods with the adjusted compatibility mode set to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
5) tried using AIMTamer with no success

I am running out of options here. Anyone willing to help out with my issues?

i feel like at this point just use a Windows XP VM, or an actual machine running XP and a copy of 5.1. I tried the methods as well with no success.

I've had the same issue, and Task Manager freezes up too. No, I also can't figure it out.
