need to get the AIM 6+ clients to talk to a .net ssl socket before worrying about that..

Hello, iwarg . So your saying its the aim client.. i know theres a sslstream that wraps network stream in .net.
So .net probably doesnt do that alone..Yes it will work across networks, but you can make a vpn tunnel etc.

Microsoft's .Net Framework has nothing to do with all this. iWarg just needs to reverse engineer how Pidgin does AIM over SSL. In fact I think the AIM Purple Plugin is the standard for how this is built.

unfortunately it's not that simple. The server has supported SSL since 2018 and pidgin will happily connect to it with SSL, but pidgin is also very friendly when it comes to the encryption protocol, and doesn't seem to care much about if its SSL 1/2/3/TLS or what the certificate is. trying to connect with an official AIM client throws an exception on the socket with a failure to negotiate a protocol error.

'negotiate a protocol error', sounds like its asking for a packet. That is how a server negotiates, but may just sound like it.
