Creating a file called "hosts" inside the Preferences directory changes nothing and the problem still persists.

You have to add:

login.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70
slogin.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70
toc.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70

It can't be blank

Even with the updated hosts file, the client just attempts to connect indefinitely.

Not if they can't edit the host in the settings. They all sem to think it's the proxy settings because host isn't there

The hosts file originally had this in it when I first wrote it:

127.0.0.1 iwarg.ddns.net

But now it has the new info. Is there something I'm missing here? It keeps timing out the connection whenever I try and log in.

If you put that host (iwarg.ddns.net) in your hosts file and you can't edit the host within the AIM settings, then what's the point? Not only that, 127.0.0.1 is your own machine so it's even more pointless as that means you are trying to connect to yourself.

That's why I suggested overriding the default settings which should be login.oscar.aol.com with iwarg's IP address, but specifically I can't be sure of what you need to do.

It may also be trying to connect on a totally different port, but I don't know about the Mac client.

So I FINALLY figured out how to set the hosts file in OS 9 (Go to the TCP/IP Control Panel, hit CMD+U and select Administrator, then apply the file), but when I try and apply the file, the OS gives me this error:

"The ttl value '184.15.124.70' on line 1 is not valid."

Is there something I'm missing?
